Kansas City-based fashion photog, Brian James, took a bunch of local folks and photographed them in public spaces holding signs–à la the homeless–for his “I’ll Say It For You” expose. Check out more of the series and a quote about the project below.

The ABCs of Branding Print
December 15th, 2009 · Comments

Ah, the ubiquity of branding. Orlando-based artist, Jason Dean, collected letters that serve as logos and spelled the alphabet with them for a print. Let’s see if we can decipher what company or brand each represents: A (ABC, thanks Meli), B (Budweiser), C (Coke), D (Disney), E (Enron), F (Ford, thanks Stuart), G (General Electric), [...]

The Beatles 1000 Years from Now
December 15th, 2009 · Comments

This is all sorts of awesome. Scott Gairdner imagined in a mockumentary-style video how the world would remember The Beatles 1000 years after they died. The result is “Beatles 3000,” a hilarious satire that finds Scottie Pippen as a member of the most prolific band in history. Watch it, please! [Courtesy of Dangerous Minds]

For Future Decisions, Politicans to Abandon Politicking in Favor of Good Ol’ Fashioned Throw Down

Back in early November, we wrote about a set of Christmas tree ornaments that depicted politicians dressed up like wrestlers. They were fun: each had a really clever and appropriate alias, and to be honest I’m surprised more people didn’t discuss them. The makers of those, Yee-Haw Industries, have just released this Presidential Heavyweight Championship [...]

Yay or Nay? The Work of Benoit ATL
December 12th, 2009 · Comments

We’ve shied away from featuring unpurchasable artwork of late. But since some of these paintings by French artist, Benoit ATL, are indeed still for sale, albeit without listed prices, we’ll let it slide. Plus, anyone who has the cojones to paint a photo of a homosexual Che Guevara (Gay-Vara, above) should in the very least [...]

Working under the notion, “The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword,” the Poster 4 Tomorrow campaign asked people to design posters concerning the lack of freedom of expression in certain countries around the world. Here are 10 of the 100 posters they decided best fit the initiative. Please read more about this cause. It’s a [...]

French illustrator Stéphane Massa-Bidal (aka Hulk4598, or Rétrofuturs) churns out new work at an astounding rate. His latest series depicts internet stalwarts as retro (his signature) magazine book covers. Somehow Massa-Bidal always seems to throw in a bit of timely irony and sarcasm in his work, proving that the man pays attention to the world [...]

In an obvious attempt to appeal to a younger, hipper, more fashion-forward demographic, Lucasfilm has collaborated with New Era to release a series of Star Wars-inspired 59Fifty baseball caps. The geekdom includes 20 variations–everything from the classic Star Wars logo to Yoda to the ridiculous Chewbacca version.
They went on sale yesterday, and range in price [...]

The World in 2020: Grim, Gray-Haired Past Leaders Apologizing for Ruining Mother Earth

President Obama is depicted as an aging, apparently distressed old man in this advertisement, which has appeared in and around the Copenhagen Airport in Denmark ahead of the UN’s 15th conference on climate change (starting Dec. 7th). The president’s version is just one in a series of ads showing has-been world leaders lamenting their regret [...]

‘Outta Space’ by Paul Baines
December 2nd, 2009 · Comments

UK artist, Paul Baines, is perhaps best known (at least to us) for his ‘Black Christ’ piece, which casually depicts President Obama as Jesus Christ. His work is always drenched in intelligent social commentary while remaining on-point artistically. Enough from me on this. Here’s a quote from Baines about one of his more recent works, [...]
