Before Andy Warhol was Andy Warhol he illustrated a version of the well-known children’s book, The Little Red Hen, which was published by Nelson Doubleday in 1958. The eight pages of drawings (shown above and below)–while not representative of how prolific he would become–offer an early glimpse to a time when Warhol was still struggling to find his identity as an artist. There’s not much to say about these illustrations besides they’re pretty ordinary, but it’s cool to see a side of him we otherwise wouldn’t. The rest after the break. [Via]
Much of what I know was learned from Sci-Fi movies, and one such thing is that by now our clothes were supposed to be considerably more amazing than what we’ve actually got. If you told me in 1983 that our clothes in 2009 would still be made from quaint materials like cotton and wool, I’d have labeled you ignorant and short-sighted. (Precocious words for a first grader, I know.) Now if you told me we’d be wearing dresses made of 24,000 full color LED’s, I’d say, “yes, this is the future I’ve been waiting for!” Well, just in time for 2010, a company called Cute Circuit has finally ushered us into fashion’s next age. Sheep everywhere, take note. You’ve just been made obsolete. [via Neatorama] When you hear about major league baseball players and drugs, LSD is not the first thing that leaps to mind. But way back when we still had true heroes, we had Dock Ellis – the man who pitched a no-hitter while tripping on acid. And here is the story of that fateful day, in his own words, set to some hilarious animation by No Mas. The best quote: Upon realizing -two days into an acid trip – that he’s supposed to be the starting pitcher of today’s game: “Ah wow… What happened to yesterday?!” [via Dangerous Minds]
The phrase, “Keep Calm and Carry On” was used on a series of never-released motivational posters produced by the British government during the beginning of WWII. It has since been re-discovered (around 2000) and used on a gaggle of commercial products: everything from T-shirts to deckchairs to cuff-links and mugs. |
