Reverend Run, DMC and Jam Master Jay, collectively Run DMC, have been miniaturized as part of the new “POP! Rock ” series of stylized vinyl figures by our friends at FUNKO. The 3.75″ tall toys are part of the umbrella POP! line, which also includes POP! Movies and POP! Heroes. You can get all three on Amazon for less than 30 bucks.
We just finished showing at the NY International Gift Fair (thus the lack of blog posts this week), and one of the coolest things we came across was this new line of colorful ceramics from Ugly Doll. Film student Alex Eylar (whose work we’ve featured previously) is well-known around the interwebs for re-creating classic film scenes with legos. Now he’s given the same treatment to the 10 Best Picture nominees from this year’s Academy Awards. They are: Black Swan (first above), True Grit (second above), The King’s Speech, The Social Network, 127 Hours, Winter’s Bone, Inception, Toy Story 3, The Fighter, and The Kid’s Are All Right. In the photo series “Video Games vs. Real Life,” London-based graphic designer & illustrator Aled Lewis inserts classic 8-bit video game characters into pictures he’s taken from his travels around the world. Lewis also designs some deliciously geeky T-shirts, which are available to purchase on his website. Hit the jump to see Donkey Kong hiding in the Rwanda jungle, Koopa cruising around an unnamed beach in the Caribbean and four others.
In the warped mind of doll photographer Mariel Clayton, Barbie is a booze drinking, cigarette smoking homicidal psychopath that mutilates, dismembers and then hangs out with her victims, which are mostly Ken and other Barbie dolls. Our friends at Mimoco are at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas this week, where they have just announced an exciting collaboration licensing deal with DC Comics. Mimoco’s “designer” flash drive line Mimobots has previously been decorated with Star Wars and Hello Kitty Characters, and now it will lend its frame to the iconic superheroes & villains of the DC universe. First up is a run of five Batman Mimobots, including the limited-edition (5,000 pieces) vintage 1939-style Dark Knight shown above, which is the only one currently available to purchase [$19.95-$54.95]. The Joker, Robin, Catwoman and another Batman version (last three after the jump) round out the series, and will be released in February, presumably at Toy Fair in New York. They’ve also promised to expand this line in the near future with Green Lantern, The Flash and Superman Mimobots. Congrats to Evan & the Mimoco crew for this stellar release! Stewie’s Anatomy
