Lego Han Solo in Carbonite

0

The best part of this Lego version of Han Solo frozen in carbonite has to be the agonized expression on his face. While the expression itself is priceless, the figure itself can be had for a mere $16.00.

The Economics of Star Wars

0

The most interesting part of this infographic is that, in the negotiation process with 20th Century Fox, George Lucas took a tiny salary for directing the first Star Wars so that instead he could have final cut of the film, 40% of the net box-office gross, all rights to future sequels, and ownership of all the merchandising rights for “Star Wars.”

I’d say his ballsy move paid off (and then some), as Forbes just named Lucas the 97th richest person in America (#316 in the world), with a net worth of $3.25 billion!

Check out the whole thing after the jump.

25 Pop Culture-Inspired Art Cakes

1

(Above Photo Via fsumaria’s Flickr)

The 25 “art cakes” included in this post were chosen based on three criteria. The first, each cake had to be inspired, even tangentially, from something in popular culture — be it the Sorting Hat from Harry Potter or a zombie, representing the zeitgeist’s current infatuation with the human-flesh-eating terrors. The second was that each cake needed to be artistic, because while looking through hundreds upon hundreds of amateur and professional cakes, I noticed a theme: most of them aren’t very good! The last was that the photo of the cake had to be decent quality.

Keep in mind this gallery is subjective and probably missing some gems, so feel free to drop us a line if you find one that should be included.

Check out the rest of the collection after the jump.

Star Wars: The Baroque Version and Other Works by Illustrator Mattias Adolfsson

(Above: R2-D2 and C-3PO from Star Wars: The Baroque Version)

I’ve just spent the last hour or so flipping through the digital sketchbook of Swedish illustrator Mattias Adolfsson and I can’t help but feeling like I’ve been exposed to the soul of a creative genius.

Adolfsson’s style is unique and refreshing, and his entire collection is certainly worthy of a thorough browse. But since time is money, after the jump we’ve abridged his portfolio and included his most impressive complete series (Star Wars: The Baroque Version) and 20 select illustrations. (Most of which, as a testament to his astonishing work process, come from 2010.)

Click here for Adolfsson’s blog and here to purchase a print in his Etsy shop.

In his spare time, animator Angus MacLane, who has worked on every Pixar release from A Bug’s Life through Wall-E, likes playing with legos. A lot. He’s constructed over 300 “CubeDudes,” which are these amazing mini-sculptures fashioned to resemble (rather accurately) people from all across the pop culture spectrum.

After the jump check out Captain Crunch, Liz Lemon, Mario and 37 others. Conan O’Brien is shown.

Brutally Realistic Yoda Cake Takes a Turn Toward the Dark Side

0

It all started out so innocently. We thought this was just going to be a feel-good story about a sweet looking Yoda head cake and that would be that. Wrong we were. As we delved further and further into the slideshow it became apparent that this cake was little more than a cleverly disguised, one-way ticket to the Dark Side.

Go ahead and follow the link to see Yoda’s fate, but be warned… it ain’t pretty.
