Learn All About China in 10 Minutes

YouTube Preview Image

My work has afforded me the opportunity to go visit China once or twice a year for the last couple of years, and to work side-by-side with the Chinese people who make our product ideas into reality. Even as a fairly well-traveled Westerner, China still manages to boggle my mind. Culturally, economically, and politically it’s just a very unique animal.

This video does a remarkable job of taking this enormously complex nation and boiling it down into something adorable that will actually teach you a hell of a lot. And honestly, whoever you are, wherever you are, you need to start understanding more about China.

Ra Ra Riot on Jimmy Fallon

And now a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming in order to give some love and props to our good friends, Ra Ra Riot, who kicked some ass on Jimmy Fallon last night.

Solitude – A Work In Progress

0

I was browsing through Behance in search of an illustrator or character designer for an upcoming project we’re working on at Jailbreak Collective when I stumbled onto this work-in-progress” series by an artist named Joe Fenton. He draws like I wish I could draw. In fact, when I spent all my days in high school doodling in notebooks, the theoretical endgame was a masterpiece of exactly this sort. Alas, my manual talents never quite evolved to match my ambitions so I moved into other media. But when I see something like this, it reminds me of how much I still jock people who have that natural gift which we used to refer to as “Hand”, back in art school. (ie; “Damn… have you seen the trippy 8 foot wide mural that Joe’s working on? That fucker has got some serious Hand!”)

If you want to see the final product, click through below. I didn’t want to ruin the experience of watching the work unfold by posting the completed drawing right beneath all the work-in-progress shots. Read the rest of this entry »

Bizarre Licensing Deal of the Day: Marvel Cookies

0

I’ve met Marvel’s licensing department and all I can recollect clearly is that they said “no” to us and that they wear Ed Hardy T-Shirts. Infer from that what you will. Upon reading about Williams Sonoma releasing a licensed product from Marvel, in an industry rag I was all ready to cynically pounce down from my idealistic perch of judgement. But dammit. I clicked through and found the picture and now I just want to eat the little fuckers.

You win this round, Marvel. But we’ll meet again.

Appetite for Eternia

I’m not naming any names here but let’s just say that a certain member of the Jailbreak staff saw this image and had absolutely no idea what it was about. Said staffer was obviously stuck inside a womb in 1986. Personally, I’m looking for a way to get this printed on a T-Shirt so I can send it back in time to my 12-year-old self.

Ikea Knows Best

0

By now, surely everyone has dealt with the frustrating simplicity of Swedish instruction manuals littered with umlauts, as rendered by Ikea. Life, it turns out, has various challenges that can be addressed in this style; baby-making, house-building, particle-collider construction, to name a few. Oh… and, of course meth labs.

See the rest after the jump.

Words can’t do this video justice, so we won’t even try. Inexplicably, we think it has a good shot at going viral.

Your Moment is Waiting

This is not your  typical tourism promotion video but, then again, if you read this blog  you’re probably not a typical tourist. Personally, I’m entranced by this footage and though I’ve never actually heard of Kerala and would be hard pressed to find it on a map, I’m ready to pack my bags.

The film, titled “Your Moment is Waiting” was made made for the Kerala Tourism Board by Prakash Varma who gets props from us for going way outside of the box and bringing art to what could arguably be considered the most banal medium known to man.
