Archive for July, 2010Available from Behance Outfitter for $99.99. I’m guessing you have to mix This and That together then stir it up with the Stick. Anyway… cool concept. Diesel’s running a new branding campaign called “Be Stupid,” and when branding’s done well, it deserves some props. Along with a really fun website that lets you have some stupid fun, the campaign includes a series of print ads that make stupid look pretty damn good. The agency behind ‘Be Stupid’ is London/New York based Anomaly, who were recently named one of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company. After reading up on their business model, I can confidently say the people behind these ads are, in actuality, anything but stupid. But anyway… to see what happens when you stick your head in a mailbox, read on… While I assume this Space Invader couch actually exists, it’s hard to tell these days with people and their crazy Photoshop skills. The blurb on designer/conceiver Igor Chak’s website suggests it is, in fact, the real deal. Chak says, “the couch is all leather, with two glass surfaces. Although it might look uncomfortable, it’s actually really soft…and made with memory foam.” From his bio, Chak seems like a pretty legitimate guy, so we’re inclined to take his word for it. Plus, the couch is featured in the “industrial” section of his website, when there’s also a “conceptual” area, where it is not. A further skim through his bio reveals Chak is somewhat of a nomad; born in Russia, and raised in Toyko and Seattle. He received his education in industrial design (hint #3) at the Art Institute in Seattle, before taking a few jobs and eventually landing a position as a prototyping specialist at Nokia. If his life hasn’t intrigued you already, Chak says he’s finally found his passion in life: motorcycle design. With two concepts already completed, Chak is working on a third, for a 2030 BMW Motorrad, which he says will be, “visually and technologically stunning.” Check out a few more pics of the Space Invader couch below. Final verdict: real. Some kids want to be astronauts, others fireman or lawyers. Me? All I’ve ever really wanted to be was a samurai. So basically these authentic Samurai Underwear, modeled after styles worn by actual shogun and samurai, are something I really need. The product copy on Japan Trend Shop where I spotted these is pretty funny, so I’ve included it below.
The video and the above description are by Hak Hoisington, a freelance animator, illustrator, designer (and presumably a puffer) who lives and works right in our home territory of Brooklyn. You may recognize his style from the 2004 video for Eminem’s song Mosh. You can see all sorts of work by Hoisington over at his website, blackmustache.com. [Laughing Squid via GOOD]
The zeitgeist’s current love affair with zombies and vampires is getting a little out of hand. Exhibit A: this Garden Zombie is an actual product. Lawn gnomes, beware. [Via Think Geek] |
