Pillow Head

0

Oakland-based artist, Mark Giglio, is a fine example of a modern day product artist, and someone high on our list of people to interview (Mark, holler at me). His Pen Pencil Stencil studio (covered) is home to contemporary Kokeski Dolls, miniature wooden forests, and now, too, this pillow, featuring his signature style of face and shape design. The product, Pillow Talk ($85.00), is hand screenprinted and limited to only 10 pieces. Pick one up! [Svpply]

Film: New York City, Miniaturized

1

Using a post-production technique called tilt-shift, director Sam O’Hare’s just-completed short film, The Sandpit, takes us on a memorizing journey though a day in the life of a miniaturized New York City. Maybe it’s because the stills used–of which there were 35,000–were taken during the hottest week of summer 2009, but watching this makes us nostalgic for a city we love when it’s warm. For an informative interview with O’Hare, where he answers every question you could ask about his film, please click here. [The Awl]

‘Growin’ Up’ Speaker Concept

0

Seemingly banking on design over functionality, Marcos Ignacio Madia, who doesn’t seem to have a website, has created a rough concept for these stackable, tree-inspired “Growin’ Up” speakers. Concepts are tough to categorize in terms of success ratio, as they can easily fall apart during the manufacturing process, something we in the product art business know a thing or two about. The idea here is interesting, though, and we dig the potential to connect, or in this case stack, our speakers. It adds a home design element to the equation, which is becoming increasingly important when thinking about introducing a product into the marketplace. Check out more photos below.
