From a guy who wrote a book called Ideas Man, which should be a “bestseller” but is instead being labeled as a “worstseller,” comes this ironic and painfully simple video about a baby’s mobile with Mr. T heads. Thus a “Mr. T Mobile”: the real T Mobile, not that cell phone carrier that I’ve never actually known anyone to use. The man is named Shed Simove, and you should buy his book or a number of his other pithy products like the Martin Loofah King. Thx, J!
This liquid lamp ($280.00), and its cousin, the liquid bookmark, are designed by Japanese firm, Kyouei Design. It’s cool because, you know, it looks like someone got bludgeoned in the den (also available in white just in case blood isn’t your thing). The material used for the appearance of liquid is actually an iron plate. [Courtesy of KN]
Art? Tool? Design Object? How should we define the sexy, powerful, and now green (!) axes ($200-$400.00) in Best Made Company‘s 2010 winter catalog? Ultimately it’s pretty irrelevant. On one hand, these beauties could hang in NYC apartments or condos in Aspen, and fit right in. Conversely, they can also serve their innate purpose and demolish some wood. But, no! They’re far too pretty for that. Check out the rest of the collection below.
It has been quite a couple of years for us here at Jailbreak Collective, and the Obama Action Figure is probably the biggest reason why. While we don’t expect accolades for our humble game-changing products, it’s always nice to get a little bit of love, especially in a market that’s become increasingly saturated since we embarked on this exciting journey. Our esteemed colleague, toy and pop culture aficionado, Jeremy Brautman, was asked by a friend to send her his favorite toy from 2009. Since his knowledge about toys outweighs–albeit barely–his vast collection of them, Jeremy was stumped and instead threw together a list of the Top Ten 2009 Production Art Toys Under $50. And what do you know? Our very own Hope Obama Action Figure found its way onto the impressive list at No. 6! Click here to see the full countdown.
Not positive as to why these stainless steel straws are so appealing, but they are. It’s the whole idea of “being the same, but different,” I think. Available as a set of six ($18.00) from the Brook Farm General Store. [Courtesy of Stilsucht]
Pegged as a product that’s “complex enough to play with, yet simple enough to wear,” the Gear Ring ($165.00) is the first venture from NYC-based company, Kinekt Design. It’s made from high quality stainless steel and features six micro-precision gears that turn in unison when the outer rims are spun. I actually had the opportunity to play with one of these guys yesterday (our friend Ben was involved in its creation), and while it was a bit bulky for my taste, the ring provides a serious amount of amusement for someone who likes to fidget with stuff at all times. A company called These Are Things searched for and couldn’t find a simple, modern world map, so they did what any ambitious creative people would do and made their own. The result is this four color, hand-screenprinted, minimal map that measures 20″ x 30,” and costs $60.00. Buy some pins and start mapping your travels…[Courtesy of Svpply] |
