Even without the luxury of a magnifying glass (or zoom), its impossible not to appreciate the detail and complexity of Barcelona-based artist, Vasco Mourao‘s work. It takes the hand and eye of an architect, which he is, to draw something with such precision and depth. Four of his illustrations are available as prints until December 19th. Take a look at them below, and think about purchasing them here. Also included under the cut is a round-up of his most impressive work from the past year. [Courtesy of Lost at E Minor]
Ah, the ubiquity of branding. Orlando-based artist, Jason Dean, collected letters that serve as logos and spelled the alphabet with them for a print. Let’s see if we can decipher what company or brand each represents: A (ABC, thanks Meli), B (Budweiser), C (Coke), D (Disney), E (Enron), F (Ford, thanks Stuart), G (General Electric), H (Honda), I (IBM), J (Johnson & Johnson), K (Kellogg), L (Lysol or Lindt, thanks Rose Marie, Stuart and Danielle), M (McDonald’s), N (The New York Times), O (Target), P (Paramount Pictures, thanks Danielle), Q (QuickTime), R (Ray-Ban), S (Superman), T (Texaco), U (United Airlines, thanks again Meli), V + W (Volkswagen), X (Xerox), Y (Yahoo) and Z (Zenith). Help me out in the comments with the ones I missed. [Courtesy of Swiss Miss via Sub Studio] Here’s the schpeel about the print:
Gold on Cream (shown) — $50.00 — Purchase / Silver on Black (below) — $50.00 — Purchase
Available in every letter from–uhh let’s make sure we get this right–A-Z, these felt Scrabble-tile pillows from Rockett St. George are made out of 100% recycled material. Buy them in either black or cream, and let your boyfriend (or girlfriend, but dudes aren’t nearly this resourceful) know you’re ‘nude in the bedroom.’ It’s the new, more expensive sticky note. That message would cost, let’s see, carry the five, $975.00! Forget it. Just send a text. Detailed shots under the cut. Measure 16″ x 16″ — $65.00 Each — Purchase This is all sorts of awesome. Scott Gairdner imagined in a mockumentary-style video how the world would remember The Beatles 1000 years after they died. The result is “Beatles 3000,” a hilarious satire that finds Scottie Pippen as a member of the most prolific band in history. Watch it, please! [Courtesy of Dangerous Minds]
British fashion designer, and regular popular-brand-collaborator, Sir Paul Smith, has just come together with Apple to release a line of products that feature his signature color scheme. Available to purchase are three items of note: the Mini Cooper Macbook sleeve (shown, 15″ version; $145.00 — Purchase), knitted socks for the iPod Nano, and a beautiful leather iPhone 3G case (both shown under the cut). Check out Smith’s store for more info. Back in early November, we wrote about a set of Christmas tree ornaments that depicted politicians dressed up like wrestlers. They were fun: each had a really clever and appropriate alias, and to be honest I’m surprised more people didn’t discuss them. The makers of those, Yee-Haw Industries, have just released this Presidential Heavyweight Championship Wrestling Match poster, using the same concept as the ornaments. The lineup promises a “night of broken dreams and fractured hips,” and features a main event of John “The McCainiac” McCain vs. Barack “The Terrorist Fist Jabber” Obama. Also, like the last time around, they’re offering a vice presidential version. Check that one (Pandemonium on the Potomac) out here. I think we can all agree that we’d love to see something like this actually happen. No more meetings and vetoes and arguments, let’s just strap boxing gloves on these guys and encourage them beat the shit out of each other. The print is one-of-a-kind, measures 30″ x 42,” and costs $250.00 — Purchase
Today, Bobby from Kitsune Noir announced the first edition of prints from his inaugural Poster Club have gone up for sale. In collaboration with Society 6, he asked five artists to interpret a book they love and turn it into a print. The results range from a chaotic and emotional rendition of David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest (by Cody Hoyt) to a classic Mark Weaver work for Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five. Check out four of the five under the cut. The prints are all up for sale over at Society 6, and range in price from $50.00 — $70.00, depending on size. Congrats, Bobby! These are great.
This crazy plaster-bust covered in colored wax (?) called Ghost was made by Brooklyn-based artist, Nick van Woert. Hit the jump for a selection of his similar works from 2009.
Under the cut, these fragmented photos of fallen leaves will combine to create something very cool. The installation is the work of Spanish artist, SpY, who we’ve covered quite a few times previously. His work is always so spontaneous and well-executed. He’s one of the best urban installation artists working today for the simple fact that he can take something overlooked, like a pile of leaves, and turn in into a piece of art.
While browsing through artist Stéphane Massa-Bidal‘s portfolio ahead of our interview with him later this week, I came across a couple of quote prints that I missed when posting about them the last time around. Just thought I’d share. One more after the cut. Be on the lookout for the exclusive interview sometime in the next few days. |
