Archive for December, 2009The goriest, gooiest and possibly funniest, scene in all of Star Wars has finally met the perfect licensing opportunity. Â Note the light saber zipper pull – a small detail that borders on genius. Available now, from our friends at Thingeek.
See those oddly-shaped pink blobs in the lower part of the photo above? Well, those are called monster’s footprints. They consist of 120 square feet of pink rubber that was sunken into the ground. Pretty cool, huh. They serve as a playground of sorts for people in the city center. A couple more detailed shots under the cut. Deezen has the scoop: “Beijing architects MAD have created an installation of two large monster’s footprints as part of the Shenzhen & Hong Kong bi-city Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture in China.”

Kansas City-based fashion photog, Brian James, took a bunch of local folks and photographed them in public spaces holding signs–Ã la the homeless–for his “I’ll Say It For You” expose. Check out more of the series and a quote about the project below.
We’re really big fans of illustrator Mark Weaver, as we’ve featured his work quite a few times previously. I was just browsing through his portfolio and noticed that surprisingly he still has a few of his limited edition screen prints available to purchase. While they won’t be delivered before Christmas, it’s still a great opportunity to own a piece of art from the prolific artist. Seen above is the General Dodo screenprint. It’s limited to 50 copies and costs $50.00. Buy one here. Two more below.
“Rock, Paper, Scissors” limited edition print by Kennebunk, Maine-based artist Alisha Gould. Also available is the “Thumb Wrestling” print, which can be seen below. Both are silkscreen prints of the hand-drawn-image (no pun intended) variety, and measure 14″ x 18″ and 11″ x 14″, respectively. Limited to 100 copies of each — $30.00 — Purchase (Rock, Paper, Scissors) — Purchase (Thumb Wrestling)

Really diggin’ this series of illustrations by UK-based illustrator, Rich Gemmell, who drew them based on an inspirational trip he recently took around Scotland. There are six total prints (The Whales, above; rest under the cut) in the outdoorsy series, but at the time of post they’ve all sold out. These could easily be used in an ad campaign for a company like REI or The North Face if they were trying to present their identity artistically. When looking at them it’s hard not to feel like you’re actually there out in the wilderness. And that’s coming from someone who would rather eat cactus than go camping. [Courtesy of The Best Part]
Seinfeld the character was the biggest wuss in the history of TV. I would have much rather had George Costanza and Kramer on my side in a brawl any day. Still, this print, appropriately titled, “What’s the deal with Nunchucks,” finds Jerry and Bruce Lee amalgamated into some sort of Jewish martial artist. Interesting and hilarious combination if there ever was one. By California-based artist, Brandon Bird. He has a portfolio full of funny celebrity-invaded work, including obvious love for Harrison Ford, Nicolas Cage, Christopher Walken (who doesn’t) and the dudes from the OG Law and Order. Check it out. Buy the print here (13″ x 19″ — $40.00) |
