Snow Wars

0

Any devious kid knows that using a slingshot greatly enriches the classic summertime activity of hurling water balloons at innocent bystanders on the street. This is the same thing, except the winter version. The Snofling ($6.00) is a revolutionary device that professionalizes snowball fights. It’s high-impact plastic is perfect for intense matches, while it’s unique design allows for the balls themselves to be chucked much further than the arm could achieve. Finally, the hollow end-piece molds the snow from a standing position, so back problems and cold hands are merely a thing of the past. It even features a whistle on the end for mocking opponents while they’re lying defeated on the ground. Cold, sir!

Let’s See How Far We’ve Come — Picturing the Last Decade by Phillip Niemeyer

0

So due to an unfortunate coffee spill, the ‘e’ key on my computer isn’t working. I’d like to further extol the brilliance of this decade-in-review picture chart that Phillip Niemeyer did for The New York Times, but having to hit Apple + V every time I need an ‘e’ is pushing me to the brink of frustration. It’s cool, though. So click on it to make it bigger and check it out.

Banksy Starts Turf War, Currently Trails Robbo in Originality, Self-Referencing Capabilities

0

Remember the environmental-edged Banksy series we wrote about last week? Of course you do. Even if you didn’t see it here, the rest of the blogosphere covered it ad nauseum, so it surely popped onto your computer screen at some point. If Banksy shit in the woods, everyone would not only write about it, but they would probably try and steal the dung and then hawk it on ebay.  Anyway, AM is reporting that the Bristol Bomber apparently tagged over the work of old school graffiti artist Robbo in the piece you see above. Robbo was understandably pissed and one-upped Banksy by re-working it into a blistering self-tribute. Let the battle begin! [Courtesy of Arrested Motion]

These bongs vases were designed by French outlet FX BalleÌry for Domeau&Pérès. They’re made out of PVC and fashioned after plumbing pipes. I dig the idea. [Courtesy of Dezeen]

Oscar Wilde — Deviant, Poet and One Witty Fella

Picture 1

For only $255.66, you too can have a bit of Oscar Wilde hanging in the living room. Watch out for the wit, though. It might hit you in the face. As is obvious, the carved quotation signs include two of his most famous sayings. My favorite Wilde quip is, “bigamy is having one wife too many; monogamy is the same.” What’s yours? Paper Airplane Throwing is a Sexy, Dominable Affair — Who Knew?

0

Apparently flying paper airplanes is a sport. With champions and world record holders and events and such. One Japanese man named Takuo Toda is the best. He can fly them for 27.9 seconds (with tape) and 26.1 seconds (without tape), but much to his chagrin not 30 seconds. However, according to Toda, who has been described as a “virtuoso” of his craft, it’s only a matter of time before he hits the lofty and mythical plateau of half a minute. Awesome. I wonder if they have groupies? [Courtesy of Huffington Post]

Song of the Year — ‘My Girls’ by Animal Collective

0

It’s a pretty mellow couple of days on the blogosphere, so I’m going to leave you with this dope video for Animal Collective’s ‘My Girls,’ and say au revoir for the time being. This track comes off the stellar album, Merriweather Post Pavilion. Both the have been hailed as the best of 2009 in their respective categories, so you should pick up a copy and enjoy it while eating the Christmas ham.

I’ll probably post sparingly over the weekend, but otherwise — Happy Holidays!

Fancy Arrows for Any Creative Project

0

The folks over at Ohio design studio, Wire & Twine, have created a slew of nice arrows over the years for a number of different projects. Along the way, they’ve kept them in a file for the purpose of one day sharing them with the world. That day is today, well yesterday actually. Head over to their blog, Enjoy This Beautiful Day, and download the fancy arrows for yourself. [Courtesy of Swiss Miss]

Cinema 2009 by Kees van Dijkhuizen

Kees van Dijkhuizen took 342 clips from movies in 2009 and boiled them down into a seven minute video montage. It’s fun to see retrospective stuff like this, especially if you spend a lot of time watching movies like us. [Courtesy of /Film]

Best Made Co. Commemorative Print

1

The Best Made Co. makes some really nice, unnecessarily-stylish axes. But hey, who’s to say a dude shouldn’t chop wood with a well-designed weapon? They also have this commemorative 2009 poster you see above (the first image is the front, second is the back). It’s available to purchase here for $20.00.
