At first glance, this bookend of a breaking wave is pretty damn neat. But upon closer inspection, nothing is as it seems. The foam is actually copious bunnies, falling to their demise in the deep blue sea. It just went from cool to brilliant. The bookend, called “Uprisings Resin,” is derived from a painting–which is derived from another painting– and was created by Los Angeles-based duo, KozynDan and sculptor, Julie B. In 2003, Kozyndan were commissioned to design the cover for Giant Robot Magazine #28. So they re-envisioned Hokusai’s famous print, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” with tons of bunnies riding the wave (the finished image can be seen below).
Now they’ve translated the print to a sculpture with the help of uber-talented artist and sculptor, Julie B. Produced by and sold through, Munky King, “Uprisings Resin” measures 9.5″ tall and is limited to 10 pieces at the moment. More info here.
