The ubiquitous use of animation and stop motion in indie music videos these days has thrust the genre into an experimental age that is quickly turning into a renaissance. We’ve spent quite a bit of time covering this trend during the past year, and it’s safe to say that this video (above) for, “I Say Fever” by Ramona Falls is one of, if not the best of 2009.
Directed by Portland-based animator and film director, Stefan Nadelman (in 2003 he won the Short Film Jury Prize at Sundance for “Terminal Bar”), “I Say Fever” is a tale of intrigue and mystery where nothing is really what it seems. Nefarious animals with birds as their bullets masquerade as humans in a dangerous hunt for heads. The use of black and white with bursts of bright color makes the tone of the video perfectly synchronous with the tone of the music.
Watching once simply isn’t enough. Bravo.
Ramona Falls is the solo project of Brent Knopf from the band Menomena, and “I Say Fever” is the first single off his debut album, Intuit. Check out the band’s MySpace page for more music and information.
