Liu Bolin Plays Most Time Consuming Game of Hide and Seek in Name of Art

Beijing-based artist, Liu Bolin, channels his inner chameleon with elaborate transformations into whatever object stands behind him. For this project titled, naturally, “Camouflage,” Bolin covers his body in paint and effectively becomes invisible, at least for a moment.

Eight more pics and artist info after the break.

Bolin has previously held exhibits at the Galerie Bertin-Toublanc in Paris and Miami, as well as Eli Klein Fine Art in NYC.

Here’s a statement by the artist about his work:

“I choose to merge myself into the environment. Saying that I am disappeared in the environment, it would be better to say that the environment has licked me up and I can not choose active and passive relationship. In the environment of emphasizing cultural heritage, concealment is actually no place to hide.” -Bolin

    Liu Bolin has
been doing his Hiding in the City series since 2005. It started as a
political commentary on the tensions between the Chinese government and
their people and the identity an environment gives an individual and
vice versa. Liu Bolin will be exhibiting at Eli Klein Fine Art in New York from June 29 – August 28, 2011. Eli Klein Fine Art represents him exclusively in North and South America. More images can be found on www.ekfineart.com.  Â
