Good Idea: Svpply

I stumbled upon this interesting new website called Svpply the other day when one of its users re-posted the Paris Map Cuts we featured here on The Jailbreak.

Svpply is essentially the FFFFOUND! of products you can buy. And it has some pretty unique features that I’ll discuss after the break.

Like most user-generated-content sites these days, the folks at Svpply are only inviting a select number of participants to curate their space.

The “members” each have their own page and are able to “follow” each other if they so desire. But if you’re not a member, there’s no way to catalog what you find on the site. This is one area where such blogs and websites fail.

I understand that limiting the actual content providers is as essential part of the process. But by not allowing outside participants, Svpply (and Dropular, et. al.) is effectively limiting interaction that could otherwise be a key factor in its growth.

The process of creating a space like this is organic and one that must be monitored if it’s to succeed. I simply think that there should be a way for non-curators to be involved. Such as a secondary membership that allows you to bookmark what you like.

Anyhow, I digress. Svpply also has a “featured page,” which is an efficient way to highlight certain finds. They also organize the products into price category, gender, and a select few categories like media, tech, home and shoes.

As a person who spends hours each day online, I would love a membership to a site like this (hint hint). But just like the aforementioned FFFFOUND! and Dropular, invites are few and far between.

Svpply is still a relatively new creation. But as they continue to grow in number of quality curators, it will be the place to find cool products online.
