Brooklyn-based street artist Elbow Toe just put up six new prints in his Etsy shop that he’s selling for the recession-proof price of $30 apiece.

They depict recession-era conundrums like health care and poverty, and are wonderfully reminiscent of children’s book illustrations.

Each print is limited to an edition of 30 and comes screen printed on Stonehenge paper. Better hurry, they’re going fast.

Three more after the break.

The good folks over at College Humor made this funny little animation called, “Pixar Into Parody” about an “adorable yet homicidal” lamp that murders the letter “I”.

Projects — Paper Shoes

Bristol, UK-based illustrator and student, David Brownings, likes melted chocolate, tea (milk, three sugars), and steak on the rare side. He also has an affection for all things paper, as you can see with his series of rather accurate paper Nikes.

It surely takes ages for Browning to complete each pair, but nonetheless he offers to create custom paper shoes in any color-way via his online shop. The cost? Around $75.00.

There are a bunch more photos after the cut, including a few where Browning has placed his paper shoes next to real ones. It’s actually kind-of difficult to decide which are which. See if you can do it and post your thoughts in the comments section.

Toy Wars — Michael Jackson Vs. Mr. Bean

Montreal-based autodidact director, Patrick Boivin, is responsible for the viral video sensations Iron Man vs. Bruce Lee and Joker and Batman breakdancing.

And now the man who makes toys move is back with another awesome stop-motion video featuring a battle of odd characters: Michael Jackson and Mr. Bean.

Boivin asked the general public to vote in his final “Who Beats Who” challenge, and apparently 108,000 people decided they wanted to see toy versions of these two wackos duke it out.

Check out his youtube channel for a bunch more work.

Wildly talented NYC-based street artist, Swoon, has been popping up around Europe of late with two shows in Norway and Germany. She’s currently in Berlin where her “Squinches and Pendentives” exhibit is running at the Urban Art Gallery until October 24th.

This piece (above) is from that stopover. It’s always nice to see work from Ms. Swoon!

Two more shots after the break.

In one of the more ingenious ‘art as product’ ideas of late, Jailbreak amigo Sucklord has created Suckpax, a series of collectible, vintage-style trading cards available solely on his website.

The first run is limited to 100 boxes (36 packs per box, seven cards per pack) and includes the following: exclusive one-of-a-kind original hand drawn “sketch cards,” 43 basic cards with rare “chase pieces,” signature cards, distressed cards (think shot with a gun), and mystery inserts.

Also, Sucklord (interviewed) channeled his inner Willy Wonka by randomly placing a Golden Ticket in one of the packs, which is redeemable for a special custom toy from the man himself.

Individual packs come bundled in fives for $25.00, while full boxes run $175.00. Click here for more purchasing information.

After the jump you’ll find an example of one of the trading cards (front and back) as well as a commercial showing how these things were made.

Short Film — Spike Jonze and Kanye West’s “We Were Once a Fairytale”

0

Director Spike Jonze (Where the Wild Things Are) and rapper Kanye West last collaborated in 2007 for the controversial and critically acclaimed “Flashing Lights” video.

And now the duo have reunited for this bizarre, avant-garde short film titled, “We Were Once a Fairytale,” which explores, rather brilliantly, the constant struggle between Kanye and his massive ego (or, more accurately, a small rodent living in his stomach).

The film is full of metaphor and paints the portrait of a deeply tormented artist who masks his insecurities with narcissism. The end will have you applauding both of these men for taking a chance with their artistic vision.

It’s a must watch.
