On September 1st, 2009, husband-and-wife team, John and Linda Meyers (collectively known as Wary Meyers), published their fascinating book, “Tossed and Found.” It’s a collection of work derived from the pair’s “reduce, reuse, recycle” process; where they find old, discarded items and transform them into something new and usable. The results range from an explanation of how to build a chair from pool noodles (after the break), to the creation of this “Type Chess Set” (above). While browsing a garage sale, they found an old type tray that happened to be an 8 x 8 grid–perfect for a game of chess. They carved blocks of type so that the chess pieces were represented by their first letter (because king and knight both begin with “k,” the former is uppercase and the latter lowercase). The pieces are colored in black and white by the “residue of ink left on top of the type.” I’ll stop trying to explain the process here, so click on the photo to expand and read about it yourself! The chess set is a great concept, thanks for the links.
nice concept, one of those Y didn't I think of doing this…
wonder if K for Knight might have worked well as a capital K and italicized… like a knight on horseback, raised up… seems like the lowercase breaks rank on the importance of the piece – works perfectly for the pawns though.

i like this but its not just the chess pieces that are intreging its the board they sit in and not on like most pieces ….nice
