NYC-brand No Mas and Muhammad Ali Enterprises have come together to release Rumblevision, a series of three short animated videos that celebrate the 35th anniversary of Ali’s infamous Rumble in the Jungle boxing match with George Foreman.
The videos, hand-drawn and directed by David Rathman (“Zaire”), Jerome Lagarrigue (“Round Zero”) and James Blagden (“GFOS VS. GOAT), each re-imagine the bout from unique and abstract perspectives.
To coincide with Rumblevision, No Mas has also released a line of Ali-inspired apparel (the Cassius Clay shirt is dope).
The watercolors (one above, the rest after the break) are from Rathman’s film and will be released as limited edition prints sometime soon.

“Zaire” by David Rathman, “translates iconic moments from Rumble in the Jungle—the press conference, the rope-a-dope, Ali’s stunning knockout and delirious crowds—into a stirring black-and-blue toned watercolor time capsule.”
“Round Zero” by Jerome Lagarrigue drew, “inspiration from Ali’s own zoological poetry (“I done wrassled with an alligator/Tussled with a whale.”) in exploring Ali’s mental and spiritual transformation in the moments before the bell sounds round one.”
“GFOS VS. GOAT” by James Blagden is a fictitious boxing match between Ali and James Brown–who was in Zaire for a giant music festival at the same time as Rumble in the Jungle was taking place.
Rathman’s watercolors are below.
