Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak with toy- and film-maker Sucklord. For those people who aren’t familiar with the eccentric creator of such gems as the Homotrooper and the Gay Empire (above), visit his website.

Sucklord participated in the Jailbreak’s Art + Action = Obama exhibition last year, and created one of my favorite pieces of the entire event.

Read our unpredictable and off-the-cuff iChat conversation after the break.

Jailbreak (JB): So should I refer to you as Mr. Suck? Or is Sucklord your preferred nom de guerre?

Sucklord (SL): The Sucklord, for now, will do.

JB: Alright. I know you’ve maintained quite a few aliases during your career. Can you explain to our readers the origins of “Sucklord” and “Suckadelic,” how they’re different, and how they apply to you and what you do?

SL: Well I named the brand Suckadelic because I wanted to give people a heads up that the shit might…suck. I created that title to serve as the sort of Master of that Suck-Realm, and that’s where it came from, There are deeper more complex reasons, but that’s the condensed version…

JB: Okay. Next question: So we’re conducting this interview fresh off your Super Suckoff Two Custom Toy Show in New York about 10 days ago. Your video looked pretty insane. What was the event all about? Was it a success?

SL: It was about 85% as awesome as the video made it out to be…

SL: I think chatting is bullshit BTW.

JB: Alright dude why don’t I just e-mail you these questions and you can respond when you get a chance.

SL: I didn’t say I wasn’t gonna do it. I just feel like a teenager, which is good. Keep fuckin’ chatting!

JB: You’re content with, “it was about 85% as awesome as the video made it out to be,” as your last response?

SL: Yeah. What did you think about the Jailbreak piece?

JB: Fucking great. One of my favorites from the entire show.

SL: Wanna buy it?

JB: Strapped for cash?

SL: No I just want the work to be out there.

JB: Why did you agree to participate in Art + Action?

SL: I wanted to big up Obama and also get more fame.

JB: Are you a fame monger?

SL: It’s good for business and also encourages more work.

JB: How would you describe your work to someone who is blind?

SL: Crude but artsy with satirical and slightly salacious concepts…And I would let them feel it…touch it.

JB: Makes sense. So what inspires you?

SL: Getting to do this with you.

JB: You realize I’m trying to give you the publicity you so obviously desire, right?

SL: I know. I like talking about my shit.

JB: Okay.

SL: I’m getting stoned.

JB: Whatever dude.

SL: I’m listening to the cars.

JB: Have you even been sued by George Lucas?

SL: No. I think it would be hard to continue if I did.

JB: What inspired your Homotrooper?

SL: What do you think it says?

JB: Good question. I’m just a lowly reporter asking the massively famous Sucklord a few questions. My opinion in irrelevant.

SL: No it’s not.

JB: At once it’s a pretty provocative social commentary on the status-quo in terms of sexuality and status, and a silly creation that comes from the depths of your twisted imagination.

SL: That sounds about right. I had this idea for a long time that you could “say something” with Star Wars. And that piece was just another expression of that.

JB: Interesting. What projects are you working on right now?

SL: Too fuckin many. A trading card auction on Oct. 2 when we’re showing the TOPPS Star Wars card series I curated.

JB: Cool. What did you do before you made toys?

SL: Sucked on my mamma’s titty…watched Sesame Street. I’ve been at this a long time.

I don't understand how Sucklord doesn't get sued. It amazes me. I think when it eventually happens people will look at all he has done and ask "Why didn't they stop him years ago?"

Oh, and I love the book HALLOWEEN IN NEW YORK by Mike Drake. Check it out!

    And bacon is cool too.
