Think about it this way: if you were ever to appear on a game show, this site, Learn Something Everyday, could be very handy and an instrumental part of your success. If nothing else it’s a fun way to burn a few minutes. Our friends over at Cakehead Loves Evil deserve the credit for this find. Two more on the second page. Piece was created by a Russian duo known as Self Burning. Featuring artist Igor Skaletsky; with drumming by Evegniy Labich. A bonus video by Self Burning titled, “Tank,” after the jump.
Andrew Salomone decided it had been too long since the names Bill Cosby and JELL-O were uttered in the same breath, so he created Cosby’s face out of hundreds of JELL-O shots. C’mon, this is hilarious. Plus I’m a sucker for venn diagrams and this one is awesome. Check out Salomone’s creation and a video montage of the installation after the jump.
These otherworldly paintings by artist Owen Schumacher caught my eye. Visit his website for more info. One more after the jump.
Guns have negative connotations, plain and simple. But Birmingham, Alabama artist Walt Creel is utilizing art to change our perception of the gun. Once a weapon, now it’s a paintbrush (so to speak). Creel shoots pieces of metal thousands of times to create accurate portraits of animals. His ongoing series, Deweaponizing the Gun, is at once a wonderful display of skill and expertise and a poignant commentary on guns in our culture. Here’s what he had to say about this project:

This made the rounds a bit last week but I don’t think it got the amount of press it deserves. Nikki Graziano is an artist and mathematician living in Rochester, New York, and these photos are where her two passions merge. For her ongoing Found Functions series she takes photographs and finds the mathematical substance within each of them. For more info on Graziano visit her website, or follow her @nikkigraziano on twitter. Freelance animator Dan Britt wondered what would happen if he took a psychedelic squirrel and forced it to recite dialogue from one of the creepiest movies ever made. And this is the result. The Colouring was drawn entirely in pencil and includes a lip-synced sound clip from, what else, The Shining. Awesome!
The Clutch Chair was made with 10,000 drinking straws and is meant to provide social commentary on the disposable nature of our culture.
The official title of this video is Neurosonics Audiomedical Labs Inc., but to be honest the name simply doesn’t do it justice. I get it, it’s ironic. But still. This thing is brilliant, clever and undeniably cool. Directed by Chris Cairns, and featuring a collective of DJs from the UK known as the Scratch Perverts. If you’re too ADD to sit through the uneventful moments then skip ahead to 40 seconds where the fun really begins.
10 days ago social media blog and all around powerhouse, Mashable, ran an article about camera use on Flickr. They revealed that for the first time in the site’s history, photos taken with the iPhone outnumbered those shot with a Canon Digital Rebel. Since then, blogs like iPhone Photography have been popping up all over the web. And some of the submissions are quite impressive. Check out five more photos after the jump. |
