Here’s a pretty cool bit of news coming from slashfilm today. Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (of Supersize Me and Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?) is set to produce and direct a documentary about the Simpsons, detailing the show’s significance in the cultural landscape over the past 20 years.

It will be titled, The Simpsons: 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice, and is set to premiere on January 14th, 2010 on Fox.

And Spurlock seems pretty stoked about it. He said,

“When they first called me about this, I thought it was a prank and I hung up,” said Spurlock. “And then my agent called back and said, ‘No, no, this is for real,’ at which point I fainted. Then when I woke up, I called everyone I knew because it was the coolest thing I could ever get to do in my career.”

The Simpson’s set the bar for every comedic and satirical cartoon that has followed in its footsteps.

Be on the lookout for the jailbreak’s interview with Simpson’s-inspired cartoonist William Levin on Wednesday.
