For someone who has been following both of these artists pretty extensively over the past six months, it’s quite a joy to see one of them interviewing the other. Not only does Shepard Fairey ask good questions, he gets honest, refreshing answers out of the most mysterious man in the art world: Banksy. How Swindle Magazine managed to pull this off would be my first question, but then I’d read the “about” section on their website and realize it was founded in 2004 by Shepard Fairey himself. This interview comes from issue No. 8, which I believe was released quite some time ago. But with the massive incline in the popularity of both these guys– and the fact I’ve never heard of this article before today–it seems like a great time for this thing to get some serious publicity. Here are a few of the most impressive quotes; one from Fairey about Banksy, and the other two from the man himself. Click here to read the interview in its entirety. So dope!

Charlie McCarthy took long exposure photos of bugs under a street light and looped them together to create this cool 45 second video clip. McCarthy has done a bunch of imaginative stuff, making his vimeo page a must visit.
The Art Collectors came upon this interesting photo of an Obey sticker on the back of a truck in Iraq. Pretty cool.
Ron English (interviewed) collaborated with Secret Base to create this toy version of his well-known MC Supersized figure. The orange shell breaks off, revealing the skeleton, which also glows in the dark! Each toy comes in a special “popaganda” french fries box. No information yet as to where one of these can be purchased. http://www.vimeo.com/5698889
The song is Strawberry Swing by Coldplay, and the video is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. It was created by London-based artist collective Shynola. I’d watch this right now because the studio will probably take it down in the next hour or so. I’ve been searching all week for a legit version and it doesn’t disappoint. If you hate Coldplay then mute the video and watch the story unfold in silence. http://www.vimeo.com/5735747
Knight Fever was written, directed and animated by Christopher Minos. He’s a Disney alum and currently holds the position of animation director at CRUSH, a directorial collective and fully integrated production company. It took Minos over two years to create Knight Fever due to the hybrid nature of 2D and 3D in his work. The film will premiere at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival next week.
Sucker Punch is a movie by Zack Snyder–the visionary director who brought us the much-maligned Watchmen last year–that will be released in March of 2011. The image above was created by artist Alex Pardee for a T-shirt that was distributed to fans at Comic-Con. Here’s the plot synopsis for the film: “Set in the 1950s, Sucker Punch follows Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man.”
Philadelphia native Kenyon Bajus (KENYONB) is a self-described graphic satirist who creates subversive designs that resemble the wit, thoughtfulness and sarcasm of the great Ron English. He’s been featured multiple times in Juxtapox Magazine, and creates T-shirt designs for everyone from Akomplice to Upper Playground. Check out an interview with him here.
