Sitting on a Street Sign

street-sign-chair

The Street Sign Chair was designed by Ken Mori, and is, for an intents and purposes, one of the coolest inventions we’ve seen in quite some time. The board roates on its axis, allowing passerby to take a moment and relax while walking down the street.

No info as to where one of these can be found, but we’ll be sure to let you know if we discover one in a city near you.

Any company who advertises its product by saying “fresh off the tarmac” is alright by us. These squash-plush, macabre toys you see above are made by Road Kill Toys, who make, well, stuffed-animals who have been murdered on the open road. They consider themselves an original toy boutique with a twist.

With slogans like, “get them before the maggots set in,” “the perfect gift for like-minded sociopaths,” and “comes with a brand new death certificate,” Road Kill Toys are sick, nutso, and awesome in every way!

Here’s the description of Twitch the Raccoon (1st above):

“The blood and guts and gore are made using the latest high-tech stuffing and plush, to give it quite a realistic squidgy effect. The body and head and legs are made from specially sourced plush material, that gives them that tactile quality of mangy fur. The body is partly stuffed with beads, to give it extra dead weight. And unlike real roadkill it’s something you’ll want to take home and arrange on your bed.”

Each toy comes in a body bag, and you can even read the clever obituary of each character here.

First Look at Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

The Jailbreak is not a movie blog. Obviously. But we do read movie blogs and we absolutely love Tim Burton. He’s one of the most creative minds in show business; so good I would probably trust him to make an interesting movie about a dying cat who falls in love with a broken toaster.

Anyhow, the best movie blog on the web is slashfilm.com and today they got their hands on some first-look photos (via USA Today) of Tim Burton’s twisted re-imagining of the classic kids book Alice in Wonderland.

Burton cast an unknown as Alice (Mia Wasikowski) but the film is anything but devoid of familiar faces. Above you see Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. The two oval-shaped men are Tweedledee and Tweedledum played by Matt Lucas.

Here are some quotes from slashfilm in regards to what we can expect from the film, which opens on May 5, 2010.

“…the movie is actually a sequel in some ways. The film begins at a party where Alice, now 17, finds out that she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty high society types. She makes a run for it, and of course, ends up following a white rabbit down a hole, back to Wonderland — a place where she visited a decade prior. The White Rabbit is convinced that he has the right girl but Alice doesn’t remember her past visit to Wonderland. The creatures of Wonderland are ready to revolt and are hoping/waiting for Alice to help them, but will she? Can she?”

“Other details revealed in the article include: The Red Queen has “a moat filled with bobbing noggins”, The White Queen is beautiful but eccentric, and floats around instead of walking, and that Depp employs an accent for the Hatter that producer Richard Zanuck can only describe as ‘indescribable’.”

Discuss: Are you as excited as we are for the new Alice in Wonderland?

Talk about an inventive medium. Artist Scott Wade’s Dirty Car Art has to be one of the most ingenious uses of taking nothing and making it cool we’ve ever seen.

Not to mention he’s “drawn” the faces of some historical figures Jailbreak Toys includes in our Oddfellows Collection.
