Archive for March, 2009Online store/blog/revolving exhibition Kiosk created this really cool stamp of President Obama’s face in its Obsession collection. Now you can decorate whatever you want with our President! “When you feel extra crafty and need to be reminded that this year is the most important one of many, this stamp will clear your muddled thoughts. Bailout – Wham! Obamad! Madoff – Wham! Obamad! Iraq – Wham! Bam! Obamad! Stamp it around and have his head fill your dreams and your and everyone else’s visions. Funky with rainbow ink.” You can pick one up @ http://kioskkiosk.com/c/104/p/1035/Obama_Stamp
For those of you who missed this (myself included) here’s a pretty funny skit SNL did with former pro wrestler/action star/kid movie afficianado The Rock portraying President Obama. For the first bit his impression is pretty dead on, (not to mention they bare a vague simmilarity in terms of appearance) although it tatters off toward the end it’s still worth the watch. Enjoy! Remember the video of New York Subway artist Poster Boy I put up a while back? Well, this could be his work but it seems a litte more advanced so I’m thinking a confident copycat is on the loose. It was discovered in a Manhattan subway tunnel some time back.  Personally I think it’s progressive, especially because of its political message. What do you think? Art is art regardless of the medium by which it expresses itself… During a recent trip to the United States, U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown and President Obama exchanged gifts, as is customary during such visits. While Brown gave Obama a pen holder made from wood from the Naval ship HMS Gannet, Obama bestowed his pal a set of 25 DVDs!?! The list included some of my favorites: Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Vertigo, Sunset Boulevard, Chinatown and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The list is mostly comprised of AFI’s Top 100 films of all time so Obama gets a C- for originality. Pretty cool story though!
No, I’m not talking about the dudes who went to the moon. N.A.S.A (North America/South America) is a group comprised of U.S. native Squeak E. Clean and Brazil’s DJ Zegan. Their first album, “The Spirit of Apollo” dropped this week and contains a laundry list of famous contributors including, Kayne West, John Frusciante, George Clinton, M.I.A., and numerous others. This video is for the track “Money”, which features David Bryne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge and Z-Trip. And what do you know, Jailbreak friend and the most famous artist in the world, Shepard Fairey, lent his artwork to the video. It’s real sweet so check it out! You already know how I feel about sweet jungle gyms and since this pertains to President Obama it makes it dually relevant. Apparently the Obama’s surprised Sasha and Malia with this jungle gym on the lawn outside the Oval Office. You know, so Barack can keep an eye on them while saving the economy and doing other, simmilarly important presidental things. “This piece for sale here is one of those Manifest Hope:DC paintings. The blue version sold at the show; the red version, which hung in the SEIU’s gallery, did not. So here’s your chance to buy it! It is a multi-layered stencil painting on canvas, with additional writing using paint pens. It is absolutely one of a kind, the last of my Obama work that I will be selling, and I am putting it up for sale to try to recoup some of my costs of both submitting to the Manifest Hope show (shipping artwork is expensive!) and also flying up to attend the show and be in DC for the inauguration.” The Obama print is sweet but Scrabble piece cufflinks?!? Get outta here! I need these. For more information on Mags please visit www.artbymags.com or www.artbymags.etsy.com. For new or established artists who don’t know about etsy.com I would highly suggest checking it out. Fastcompany.com named it one of the 50 most innovative companies in the world and it’s getting bigger and better by the day.

This is an unbelievable video of a guy in the UK freestyle beat-boxing while pretending to cook a meal that “bakes for three years.” I think it’s super funny and the guy is very talented at one of the hardest skills to master. If you’re into beat-boxing I would suggest checking out Rahzel’s album, “Make the Music 2000″. Thanks to the Zellers and J*Rock for putting me onto this!
This video is actually pretty funny but I don’t think it’s meant to be. I wasn’t watching when Obama created a new verb by saying “to do a tonya harding”, but at the very least I’m pretty impressed with his knowledge of ice skating. Now that I think about it, though, it seems like this phrase may already be part of the common vernacular. Anyway, I think her reaction to it is the best. Hilarious. Check it out. *UPDATE: I posted this before HuffPo and I’m pretty excited about it… This is pretty irrelevent but I think it’s cool to see our President sipping on a beer and watching some basketball. This was taken at the Washington Wizards vs. Chicago Bulls game. I wonder if his support of teams switched when he moved to D.C. I kind of doubt it, though, the dude seems to be a pretty diehard Chicago sports fan. |
