Obama Sets End Date for Iraq War

Today is a monumental and transcendent day to be an American. During a speech at Camp Lejune, North Carolina, President Obama announced an end to the war in Iraq: “By August 31, 2010, our combat mission in Iraq will end.” He also spoke about our military switching focus to Afganistan and Pakistan: “we have also taken into account the simple reality that America can no longer afford to see Iraq in isolation from other priorities: we face the challenge of refocusing on Afghanistan and Pakistan; of relieving the burden on our military; and of rebuilding our struggling economy – and these are challenges that we will meet.

“Today, I can announce that our review is complete, and that the United States will pursue a new strategy to end the war in Iraq through a transition to full Iraqi responsibility.”

The America citizens who voted for President Obama under the notion that we would progress rather than continue our vicious cycle of war should be honored that our leader lived up to his word. While his plan will take time to show its true plausibility and effectiveness, this day marks a time when peace became important again. This is a great day for democracy and a great day to be a human being. In an era where politicians have seldom lived up to their promises of making our world a better place, President Obama seems to be carefully navigating his way toward an admirable means to an end. Maybe today marks the beginning of our climb back to where we once were; a small inkling of hope in the midst of an economic downslide and a war riddled past. No doubt there are still massive problems to be dealt with but a small step in the right direction is progress to me.

Little Einstein: Shuffle Up and Deal

Chris from www.thinkgeek.com sent over these videos and pics of professional poker player Andy Bloch using Jailbreak’s own little Einstein as his card and chips protector on TV show “Poker After Dark”. Pretty neat to be getting some recognition in the poker world. Being an avid poker player myself I’ve seen some pretty creative card protectors in the past but Einstein definitely takes the cake. We hope Einstein brings Andy all the luck he possibly can. Thanks for the support.

Obama Rap

Rappers love President Obama just about as much as anybody else. I was at the Common show two nights ago and he was going on and on about how happy he is that our president is a rapper (?). It sort of fits, though, because hip-hop music is pervasive in this country and now the whole movement has a voice beyond the pop culture icons. During his election, I think rappers were some of the most influential and outspoken voices in getting him elected. They speak to a generation, and the generation tends to listen. Seen above with Barack is Jay-Z, Diddy, Ludacris and Young Jeezy.

This is from my neck of the woods. It took three people seven hours to stomp this image of the President into the snow of Loveland Pass in Colorado. Pretty sweet!

Shaq Gives Barack the Boot

…Or shoe in this case. When the President landed in Phoenix, the Mayor’s son, Jake, presented Obama with a massive, autographed Shaquille O’Neal sneaker. Obama apparently loved it. Check out the pics!

It’s good to see Obama making it into the world of sushi. I have no idea what the japanese text means or who is responsible but it’s cool nonetheless.
