Can’t say I didn’t see this one coming but now it’s official: Barack Obama is indeed Time Magzine’s man of the Year. The issue isn’t out yet but the story is already posted on Time.com. And props to Time for the gorgeous cover! This is the first take on the famous HOPE image that I think actually outdoes the original. By the looks of it, they got Shepard Fairey himself to do it. Mr. Fairey, by the way, deserves a nod on the People of the Year list too. He’s the Artist of the Year, without a doubt. Apparently the Obama Action Figure is making news all over the world now! If we said it ourselves we’d be laughed at, but when the NY Daily News and the UK Daily Mail are reporting that we are giving Tickle-Me Elmo a run for his money, who are we to argue? We had a nice weekend love affair with the press. So we’ll forgive them if they can’t get our name right (Obama Action Figure, not Obama Doll, thank you very much) or remember where we’re from (Come on… New Jersey??? Give us our Brooklyn props please.) Here’s the post from the UK’s Daily Mail… How Barack Obama Is Giving Tickle Me Elmo A Run For Its Money This ChristmasThis Barack Obama action figure has become the unlikely Christmas toy hit among kids, say American retailers. The cartoon-like toy, which stands six-inches tall, is giving the likes of the popular Tickle Me Elmo doll a run for its money. And some New York stores report selling out of the likeness of the President-elect in the run up to Xmas.
An action figure we can believe in: This Barack Obama toy has become the unlikely Christmas hit among kids, say American retailers.
Tickle Me Elmo was a runaway hit among children – until the launch of the Obama doll “They are literally flying off the shelves,” said one worker at the Scholastic Store in Manhattan’s SoHo area. “The kids see Obama, and they just want to grab him.” If you watch TV, you’ve probably already seen this but if you’ve been laying low and avoiding the news cycle since the election, then you’re in for a bizarre treat here. Watch as an Iraqi journalist hurls his shoes at George Bush. To his credit, Bush did a ridiculously good job of ducking to avoid them.
